What driver do I need?

A hex socket on a screw gun or impact driver – set the clutch or depth so the washer compresses without being crushed.

Light section or heavy section – which do I need?

Light section (No.3 point) screws are for steel up to 5mm thick; heavy section (No.5 point) for steel up to 12mm. Use slash-point screws for timber purlins.

Do I need the washer version?

Use washered screws wherever the fixing is exposed to the weather, such as through roof sheets, to seal the hole. Non-washered screws suit brackets and internal steelwork.

Are they suitable outdoors?

Yes – the silver organic exterior coating has a corrosion rating of 3, for urban and industrial areas with a low salt atmosphere. For coastal or marine sites use bi-metal stainless screws.
